Lotsa Bags LaurenMerkin4

Location: 231 W 29th St., between Seventh and Eighth avenues; suite 201; 212-239-2459

Hours: Tues. 8/11-Fri. 8/14, 11a.m.-7p.m.; Sat. 8/15, 11a.m.-4p.m.

When to go: At around 5:45p.m. on the sale’s first day, the small space was pretty quiet, so I’d say go any time. Though, certain styles and colors are selling out, so if you’re looking for something specific you may want to get there sooner than later.

Markdown BinThe Deal$: Dozens and dozens of clutches such as the “Diana,” “Eve,” “Ingrid” and “Tatum” are up to 70% off retail, with some styles in boxes for just $15-$50 (inset). Larger handbags such as the “Large Plum” and “Ceclia” (pictured above right) are going for $275, but with original retail prices of $575 it’s a pretty good deal. There are lots of colors to choose from in several styles, even hues that aren’t on the web site. They’ve also got sweet business card holders for $5 each (or 5 for $20) in an array of colors (black patent, white patent, copper, yellow, pink). Oh and cute laptop cases are only $25. They’re also offering bulk deals for those who spend $500 or more.

More bagsThe Scene: Upon my arrival there were about five people shopping in the small, super organized suite. There was no music playing at first, which was almost a little weird cause it was just so quiet. Finally, someone put on the soundtrack to the film “(500) Days of Summer,” which I only recognized cause I recently saw (and loved) the movie. Any time I get to shop while listening to Regina Spektor and a band like Wolfmother — even while trying to make important decisions like whether to get matte black, shiny black, snakeskin black or sparkly black — I’m a happy handbag shopper. There were at least a handful of people working the sale, reorganizing the tables by style and color, which made it easier to scan the selection. Style names and prices were convenitently fixed to each bag, as well as listed on signs above the selection so the deals were clear. As the sale’s closing hour drew nearer, the space did start to fill up a bit more, and ladies started piling up next to the only mirror with handfuls of bags. But for the most part, people were respectful of each other and what they had in their hands. I didn’t witness any clawing or swiping.

Shop or flop? Definite shop. For a small space, the sale was organized and offered a solid selection of styles in various colors for relatively reasonable prices.
